How it works · The process

Five stages, no surprises. Who arrives, what they do, how long your house is a building site, and what you are left holding at the end.

The five stages

Each stage ends in something you can hold: a measurement, a drawing, a price, a tested floor, a warranty.

Stage 01 · Consultation

A free site visit, before anything is quoted

We come to the house and measure it: floor area room by room, what the floor is built on, the insulation you already have, and whether your supply can carry the load. A first-floor slab and a traditional timber floor need different systems, and nobody can tell which you need over the phone.

No charge, no obligation

What you end up with
A measured record of your house that the quote is built on.
What we need from you
Access to each room, and the floor drawings if you have them.

Stage 02 · Design & quote

A heat design for your floor, and one written price

The survey becomes a layout: which rooms are heated, cable spacing per room, and how the floor splits into thermostat zones. Colder, more exposed rooms get a denser layout than an internal bathroom. You then get one written price covering system, installation and controls, with the running cost stated up front rather than discovered in January.

150–200 W

Per m², set per room

What you end up with
A layout drawing and a fixed written quote you can compare.
What we need from you
Tell us which rooms matter and how you actually live in them.

Stage 03 · Installation

Our own team lays the floor, not a subcontractor

Insulation board goes down first so heat travels up into the room instead of into the slab. Cable or mat is fixed at the spacing on the drawing, tested, and buried in a 5-6 cm screed layer, then tested again. A fault found after the tiles are down is a floor that has to come up.

5 – 6 cm

Screed layer over the cable

What you end up with
A heated floor slab, tested, ready for your finish.
What we need from you
Clear the rooms. The subfloor has to be empty and dry when we start.

Stage 04 · Commissioning

The screed cures, then the system is brought up slowly

The stage people are surprised by. Fresh screed has to cure before it is heated, typically three to four weeks, and the first heat-up is then ramped over several days rather than switched straight to your target. Rushing either cracks the screed. We set the thermostats with you and hand over the drawing, the test readings and the warranty papers.

7-10 days

Typical screed cure before first heat

What you end up with
A commissioned system and the paperwork that proves it.
What we need from you
Hold off on heavy furniture until the first heat-up is complete.

Stage 05 · Aftercare

A floor with no daily job, and someone to call

Nothing to feed, light, clean or service. You set a temperature and the thermostat holds it. When the power goes the screed keeps radiating for hours, which in a Kashmir winter is most of the point. Behind it sits a lifetime installation warranty and 10–25 years of manufacturer cover depending on the system specified.

8–10 hrs

Warmth held through a power cut

What you end up with
Heat you stop thinking about, and cover if you ever need it.
What we need from you
Nothing. That is the entire point of the system.
On site

  1. Day 0

    Site visit

One to two hours, and we are gone. Nothing disturbed, nothing committed.

  2. Week 1

    Design and quote

Done off site. You get the layout and the price, and take as long as you need with them.

  3. Install days

    Rooms out of use

Only the rooms being heated are cleared and unusable. The rest of the house stays livable.

  4. Cure

    The quiet weeks

Three to four weeks with nobody on site. Your floor finish can be planned around this window.

  5. Handover

    First heat-up

Ramped over several days, thermostats set with you, paperwork handed over.

For a typical single-floor Kashmir home. Larger and multi-storey properties scale up, and the site visit replaces every range here with dates for your own project.

Advanced technology

Variable wattage technology means the heating element responds to the temperature around it — producing more heat when the floor is cold and less when it is warm. No sensors, no signals. The physics does the work.

How it works

Standard heating cables produce a fixed wattage whenever the circuit is closed. Variable wattage cables are built from multiple alloys with different temperature coefficients of resistance. As the cable warms, its total resistance changes, which changes the current drawn, which changes the heat produced. The cable modulates its own output as a continuous physical process.

The output curve

A variable wattage cable with a nominal rating of 150 W/m² behaves roughly as follows across its operating range:

Floor temperatureConditionOutput
5 °CCold floor, deep winter morning~200–220 W/m²
15 °CFloor warming up~170 W/m²
25 °CFloor at normal operating temperature~130–150 W/m²
35 °CApproaching upper limit~100–120 W/m²

The nominal rating refers to output at a defined reference temperature — typically a mid-range operating condition. It is not the maximum output, and it is not the minimum.

Supply voltage fluctuation

Kashmir winter supply can fall to around 160 V against a nominal 230 V. A fixed-output cable at 160 V draws roughly half its rated wattage. A variable wattage cable compensates partially through its resistance-temperature behaviour and recovers more quickly when voltage returns to normal.

Temperature extremes across the season

Heating runs from early November through mid-March. A variable wattage cable runs at lower output in mild weeks and climbs to higher output as conditions deteriorate — matching the actual demand rather than being sized for the worst day alone.

Building fabric variation

Kashmiri homes vary enormously in insulation quality, wall mass and glazing. A cable that self-adjusts to ambient conditions is more forgiving of a building that does not behave exactly as the heat loss calculation predicted.

Variable wattage cable is supplied in Kashmir through Prowarm and Fastwarm — the only variable wattage electric floor heating available in J&K. Priced at ₹350 per sq ft, the same as standard fixed-output systems.
